Quick Tips to Kick That Clutter Before the New Year

Quick Tips to Kick That Clutter Before the New Year

If every time you look around your home, it feels a little depressing due to all the clutter, what better time to focus on a clean up effort than after the holidays? If one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to look around your home and find some ways to make cleaning up easier, than these quick tips should give you a good starting point. Few people love spending time cleaning their house, but taking the time to do some organizing now can help you get through this chore more quickly all year long! Ditch those every-year resolutions to lose weight that don’t last past January, and do something quick and easy that will continue to pay dividends!

Reduce Your Overhead

Reducing your overhead always sounds good, right? In this case, we’re talking about the overhead clutter, like the kind that you find in closets and pantries. Creative storage solutions can help you find extra space you didn’t know that you had, and tucking storage spaces between wall studs or under the stairs can provide you with tidy nooks for all manner of items. Of course, it always helps to de-clutter your spaces first by donating items you haven’t used in several years and consolidating semi-full spaces together.

Make a cleaning kit Pull together everything that you need to clean specific rooms into a mini-kit that can be stashed in an out-of-the-way location until you need it. Then you can quickly grab it, clean and put it back without a big search for cleaning materials!

Streamline Your System

Creating a cleaning system for your home doesn’t have to be one of your New Year’s Resolutions, but why shouldn’t it? There are small steps that you can take that will help get you on track to keeping clean quickly and cost-effectively, too. Here’s a few of our favorites:

  • Make a cleaning kit. Pull together everything that you need to clean specific rooms into a mini-kit that can be stashed in an out-of-the-way location until you need it. Then you can quickly grab it, clean and put it back without a big search for cleaning materials!
  • Consolidated cleaning. While focusing on completing everything in one room at a time can be very fulfilling, it’s much more efficient to do all of one type of cleaning at a time. For instance, focus on the floors first, then on dusting and go through the entire house before you move on to the next task. This reduces the amount of time required to switch gears.
