Protecting your floors from a party disaster can be a challenge! Whether you’re indoors on light-colored carpet and worried about wine spills or on your back deck and dealing with sticky food droppings, a fun party can leave behind some not-so-fun side effects. You don’t want to stress out your guests by forcing them to walk over plastic-covered floors, so these tips to keep food and drinks away from your floor will be welcome during the hot summer days of entertaining.

Hardwood Floors

You may feel compelled to vigorously clean your floors before a party. However, you don’t want to overdo it with the cleaning products, as they can make your hardwood floors slippery. Slippery floors can equal some nasty spills  for both people and their plates or drinks! Protect your flooring by dry mopping instead of adding a layer of wax. Don’t forget to leave paper towels or napkins close to hand for anyone who brings in wet shoes or has a spill. Getting wetness away from your hardwood floor as quickly as possible is a must.

Light-Colored Carpeting

White or light-colored carpeting can make your rooms look much bigger and add a significant amount of light. Unfortunately, they also seem to be a magnet for dirt that can easily be ground into the fibers of your carpeting. If someone drops some food  or worse yet, wine  on your carpeting, you should address the stain immediately. Try putting up a “No shoes in the house” sign near the front and back doors. While it won’t stop everyone from tromping through your home, it might limit the amount of dirt that comes in. Need to know how to remove stubborn stains? Check-In Frequently

Taking a quick scan through your home, starting at the front door and going throughout the house, can help you catch any problems before they become a tragedy. Many stains can be removed easily before they fully set into the flooring, but could become a beast after only a few hours of drying time. A quick scan allows you to prepare for the worst of any issues and makes cleanup easier after the party.

Outdoor Disasters

The inside of your home isn’t the only danger zone when you’re hosting a party! Your back porch or deck can also be the scene of a bad situation. Consider putting down some inexpensive rugs for high traffic areas to limit the damage to outdoor flooring. Indoor/outdoor carpeting can be durable and very inexpensive when you grab a piece large enough to cover the majority of your area.
