Pet Stains

Pet will have accidents in your home and chances are they will have them right in the middle of your new rug. You don’t have to get rid of your new carpet (or your pet) when you know how to clean the stain. If the pet stain is liquid, pile up several paper towels on top of it and use your foot to press down without smearing it. Complete the cleaning process using a carpet cleaner made for pet stains. For solid stains, pick up as much as you can use a plastic bag and then finish up in the same way as above.

Red Wine

At every good party, it is only natural a little red wine will spill. Don’t panic, just grab a clean cloth and press on top of the stain to soak up as much of the red wine as possible. Next, apply a liberal amount of salt on top of the stain. The salt crystals can help to draw out the stain. Leave the salt on your carpet until it is completely dry then sweep it up. You can follow up with a quality carpet cleaning product to remove any remaining stain.

Candle Wax

Candles are great for making your house smell great, but accidents can happen, and wax can get spilled. First, use a butter knife to loosen as much of the dried wax as you can from the carpet and vacuum it up. Fold a damp white cotton towel in half and place it over the stain. Place a hot iron on top of the towel in 10-second intervals to soften the wax and transfer it to the cloth. Finally, use a carpet cleaner to remove the wax completely.Wax on Carpet

Ink

A broken pen is a mess, and if it gets on your carpet, it is likely to leave a permanent stain if you don’t act quickly. Dip the corner of a clean cotton cloth into rubbing alcohol and then blot the ink stain. Do not rub or you will just wind up spreading the ink. Continue to dab the stain with the alcohol until it is fully saturated. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Blot up the remaining alcohol and then use a mixture of white vinegar and warm water to finish cleaning the carpet.

Blood

Roughhousing is normal and kids soon forget an accidental bloody nose or lip. But the blood on your carpet isn’t as easily forgotten. You can prevent blood from staining by using cold water and a cotton cloth to clean up a fresh stain. Re-wet dried blood and pour salt on the stain. Let it dry and then sweep it up.
