At Chet’s Cleaning, we are always on the lookout for ways to clean without using harsh chemicals.  Baking soda is a cheap, all natural favorite of ours that you can use throughout the home to clean, freshen and deodorize your home.  Protect yourself and your family from conventional cleansers that can expose you to multiple harsh chemical pollutants with a little baking soda.

Check out this list of inventive ways to use baking soda around the house.

In the Bathroom

1.  Baking soda, coarse salt and dish soap makes an excellent soft scrub for bathroom tubs, sinks and tile.  With a damp sponge and the soft scrub mixture, gently scrub the surface you want to clean.  Let it sit for a few moments.  Wash completely with warm water.

Kitchen Cleaning

2.  Baking soda on a damp sponge can be used to clean the inside of the microwave oven.  Make sure to rinse thoroughly with warm water.

3.  ¼ cup baking soda and 1 quart warm water mixed together is a good solution to use for overnight soaking.  This is a great way to remove stubborn stains and rid your coffee machine of any bitter off-taste.

4.  Deodorize a trash can or kitchen sink disposal with a sprinkle of baking soda.

5.  An open box of baking soda in the refrigerator really does work to get rid of foul smells.

Useful in the Laundry

6.  Adding ½ a cup of baking soda to liquid laundry detergent can create a better pH in the wash.  The combination will make clothes cleaner and fresher than using detergent alone.

7.  Baby clothes will also benefit from the combination of ½ cup of baking soda added to liquid laundry detergent.  Get out stubborn stains and freshen clothing using the baking soda mixture.

As a Home Deodorizer

8.  Sprinkle baking soda on carpet.  Let it sit overnight and then vacuum up the next morning.  Carpet will smell fresh and you will also deodorize the vacuum all in one sweep.

9.  Deodorize pet bedding by sprinkling baking soda onto the bedding.  Wait 15 minutes and then vacuum off the baking soda.

10.  An open box of baking soda sitting in the closet works wonders when you are storing sports equipment or other items that might have a lingering odor.
