Warm weather means it’s time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine, not spend all of your time on household cleaning. The good news is, there are ways to save time, effort and money and still have a clean home. From cleaning the ceiling fans to the baseboards, the following cleaning hacks will help you get through the task of cleaning quicker, so you can spend more time doing the things you enjoy.
No More Dust Flying from the Ceiling Fans
Not only is the dust that flies off of ceiling fans irritating for allergy sufferers, but a dusty ceiling fan typically means dragging the ladder out of the garage, carrying a heavy bucket of water and sponges up the ladder and then having to re-sweep and re-mop the floor after you’re done. Although you may still have to use a ladder, you can clean the ceiling fans in less than one minute! Place the fan blades (one at a time) inside a pillowcase and wipe backward. This will remove all of the dust and trap it inside of the pillowcase, without it falling on the floor (or in your eyes). Once all of the blades are clean, simply toss the pillowcase in the washer.
Fresh and Clean Bathroom Tricks
If you’re like most people, cleaning the bathroom is probably one of your least favorite tasks. Fortunately, there are ways to have a clean, fresh smelling bathroom without spending a fortune on harmful cleaning products or spending hours inhaling the fumes from these products while you clean. Here are a few cleaning hacks for the bathroom:
- Showerhead: Pour white vinegar into a plastic bag and tie around the shower head. Let the showerhead soak in the vinegar overnight, run cold water through the shower in the morning, and all of the buildup will wash away.
- Stainless Steel Faucets: To remove hard water stains and water spots from stainless steel faucets, cut a lemon in half and rub it on the faucets, then wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth. The lemon will naturally remove water stains and rust from the faucets and leave the bathroom smelling fresh and clean.
- Clean the Tub Naturally: To quickly and easily clean the bathtub, mix dishwashing liquid with a few drops of essential oils, such as tea tree oil, rosemary, peppermint or eucalyptus. Add about one cup of baking soda and enough water to make a thick paste. Use a sponge to spread the mixture inside the tub, lightly scrub and rinse with cool water.
Keeping the Baseboards Clean
If you are looking for tricks to avoid spending hours on your knees scrubbing the baseboards, then you are going to love this cleaning hack! Dryer sheets are the magic trick to not only removing the dust from the baseboards but keeping them cleaner longer. Simply wipe a few dryer sheets over the baseboards to remove dust, dirt and hair. The dryer sheets will also help to prevent the dust and pet hair from gathering on the baseboards, so you won’t have to clean them as often. You can also use dryer sheets to remove water spots from the kitchen and bathroom faucets.
