No matter if you have indoor or outdoor wicker furniture, it can be easily cleaned.  Some people shy away from buying wicker furniture because they believe it is too time-consuming and difficult to keep in good shape.  Below are tips and tricks for cleaning both indoor and outdoor furniture that are easy to do and might have you rethinking buying this stylish furniture.

How to Care for Your Wicker Furniture:

  • Dust your wicker furniture regularly with a vacuum or bristle brush
  • If anything is spilled on the furniture, clean it up right away to avoid absorption and stains from forming.  The best method for cleaning stains is to use a sponge with warm soapy water.  Make sure to rinse thoroughly.
  • Rain and direct sunlight can harm wicker furniture.  Keep it out of direct sunlight if possible and cover the furniture when not in use.
  • Wipe off moisture to keep the wood from becoming damaged.
  • If the wicker gets wet, use a blow dryer or place the furniture in direct sunlight until dried.
  • Painting or varnishing the wicker will give the furniture a nice sheen and help to protect the wood.

Cleaning Tips:

  • A solution of 2 parts ammonia for a gallon of warm water is all you need to keep the wicker clean.
  • Make sure to keep the amount of water you use on the furniture to a minimum.
  • You should always dust the furniture before cleaning it with a liquid solution.
  • Keep the weave straight when cleaning it to help maintain the shape of the wicker.
  • Start at the top of the furniture and work your way down.  This cuts down on dripping and getting the wicker too wet.
  • If you find mildew on your wicker furniture, you can clean it with a solution of 50{7c5a46e7e2ef4251ebbbebc726b5c81c0e3bcded662c22a8f6c71de3257d04ea} bleach and 50{7c5a46e7e2ef4251ebbbebc726b5c81c0e3bcded662c22a8f6c71de3257d04ea} water.  Rinse well after 5 minutes.
