What Could Go Wrong?

Professional cleaning can refresh your space, but things like damaged surfaces, missed spots, or safety issues can occasionally arise. At Chet’s Cleaning, we believe in transparency and work diligently to prevent these problems, ensuring a smooth experience.

WINDOW TREATMENT PROBLEMS

Window Treatments Splitting

Deep cleaning sheers can cause splitting because their delicate fibers, like polyester or silk, weaken under harsh detergents, aggressive scrubbing, or high heat. Gentle cleaning is key to avoid damage.

Delamination, fabric damage, coating degradation

Many blackout curtains have a multi-layered lining, often with a rubberized or foam-like coating bonded to the fabric. Harsh cleaning methods (e.g., aggressive washing, high heat, or improper chemicals) can cause these layers to separate or peel, creating thin spots or cracks where light can pass through.

KEEP WINDOW TREATMENTS LOOKING UNIFORM AND CLEAN ALL AT ONCE

All window treatments in the same room should be cleaned at the same time, otherwise the soil that has been filtering through the shade can become very apparent.

Thread Bare Sheers

These sheers prior to cleaning, look good.  However, they have sun damage that doesn’t show until they have been cleaned.  Our inspectors will do a “pinch tear test” so we can see if they will go through a cleaning without the damage becoming more apparent. Upon further inspection we notice some shaded areas, where the material is becoming thread bare.  If this is noticed there is good chance that the material will not withstand a cleaning.

CARPET PROBLEMS

OTHER CLEANing companies CAN CAUSE HARM

Deep cleaning sheers can cause splitting because their delicate fibers, like polyester or silk, weaken under harsh detergents, aggressive scrubbing, or high heat. Gentle cleaning is key to avoid damage.

filtration soiling

Only knowledgeable cleaning technicians with the proper cleaning solutions and equipment can achieve these results.  It is not possible to always get these results, this carpet was only 4 years old and was a quality carpe with quality protection.

urine damages colors

This rug had urine damage and we couldn’t remove the stain so we painted in the missing color with Rug INK. This is not as permanent as dye but when there is still a stain sometimes INK will cover it up.

WICK BACK

Wicking occurs when a small surface stain on a carpet hides a larger issue below. Spills or pet urine can soak into the padding and subfloor, spreading widely. During professional cleaning, moisture can pull these hidden stains back up through the carpet fibers as they dry, making the stain reappear. Thorough extraction and targeted pre-treatments are key to preventing wicking and fully removing the stain.

AREA RUG PROBLEMS

Bleeding

Dyes in rugs, particularly those with vibrant or natural colors like reds or blues, can run when exposed to water or cleaning solutions. This causes colors to bleed into adjacent areas, creating splotchy or blurred patterns, especially in hand-dyed or wool rugs.

Fading

Harsh cleaning chemicals, prolonged exposure to water, or excessive heat during drying can strip or dull a rug’s dyes, leading to faded colors. This is a risk for delicate or antique rugs with less stable dyes.

Delamination

In rugs with glued or laminated backings, such as some machine-made or tufted rugs, excessive moisture or aggressive cleaning can weaken the adhesive, causing the backing to separate from the rug’s face, leading to bubbling or peeling.

Shrinkage & Rippling

Over-wetting or improper drying can cause natural fibers like wool or cotton to shrink, distorting the rug’s shape or size. This is particularly common in handwoven or loosely constructed rugs.

LEATHER PROBLEMS

Surface Damage

Aggressive brushing or scrubbing can ruin the delicate nap, flattening the velvety texture or creating shiny patches that alter its appearance.

WaterMarks

Over-wetting during cleaning can leave visible water spots or rings, as nubuck soaks up moisture readily, making it hard to dry evenly.

Loss of texture

Excessive moisture or improper drying can harden the leather, diminishing its soft, suede-like feel and causing it to become stiff or brittle.

UPHOLSTERY PROBLEMS

Cushion cover shrinkage

This is why you should never remove covers and have them cleaned.
